RECORDING HIGHLIGHTS:

These days, most student services personnel have heard of – and experienced – the phenomenon of the Helicopter Parent. These parents hover (seemingly outside your office door) and are often as much a part of the college life as the student. While traditional wisdom suggests that we should try to separate the parents from their kids (for the kids sake, as well as ours!) maybe DSS providers need to stop fighting the idea and embrace the Helicopter Parent. Once their rotors stop spinning, you may find they have valuable insights to offer about the student!

This 90-minute interactive audio conference will give you key insights from two experts in the disability services area, plus the chance to ask in-depth questions on tough or unique scenarios.

Learning Points and Questions To Be Answered:
  • Why changes in the K-12 educational system have led to changes in student preparation that impact on their college readiness

  • How to coax the information you need from the reluctant parent who only wants you to know the good parts
  • How to make parents your allies in the process of transition, rather than antagonists
